"Thanks so much for working with my limitations. I'm too busy with running my place to spend time poking into the best deals and all the rest of that stuff that makes a good website.

I'm just proud that I have one now!"

Pricing for Design Projects

It's hard to say exactly what a website costs until we've talked about your needs. The best way to explain pricing is to offer you some examples. The two below are fairly typical of what most customers will need, but of course, may be more or less expensive, based on your materials and goals.

Look at these website examples to get a feel for what a project will cost.

These site models demonstrate the variety of factors that determine how the final price is calculated.

Small Informational Site: Price Model One

Medium-sized Marketing Site: Price Model Two

All final quoted prices are based on an estimate of how many hours a project will take, multiplied by the hourly rate charged. Here is the basic formula used to arrive at a project estimate:

Total Estimated Hours x Hourly Rate Applied = Final Cost

  • Five hour (minimum) research and design time will cost $50.00/hour.
  • Regular programming of HTML/XHTML and CSS currently runs at $30/hour.
  • Javascript and DHTML programming is currently $35.00/hour.
  • Forms utilizing Perl/CGI scripts will cost $55.00/hour.
  • Onsite photography, if located within a ten mile radius, costs $50.00/hour, including travel time.
  • Custom graphics work costs $70.00/hour.
  • Photographic services cost $35.00/hour.
  • Content writing services and data entry from hardcopy materials costs $45.00/hour.
Pricing for Website Maintenance

Maintenance is not included in any project design contract. It is usually arranged for a client in a more flexible format, such as an hourly billing rate or a pack of services at a lump sum figure.

Maintenance services include routine text and photographic updates/changes to already existing page setups, or additional page creation based on the established design template for the client site. These services, if requested, also include Grand Design handling all ongoing technical support issues with the webhosting company, administration of the web server account and email user accounts, statistics tracking, and any domain name issues.

Maintenance does not include redesigning a page layout or adding to the main navigational menus, altering programs, or resdesigning the site after the client has signed off on the delivered product. All of these things can be handled, but the regular hourly rates will be charged as applicable.
